It started in 2005, with a first house and a house hack. Rene slept in the living room and rented every bedroom to students — and knew, right away, that he'd found his path. So he leveraged what he knew and built: small bathroom renovations first, then full units, always alongside his team. As the contracting business expanded, so did the portfolio — cash flow, one door at a time.
Within five years, real estate had bought back the thing he wanted most: his days. A teacher by training and a builder by trade, Rene never really stopped teaching — the classroom just became coaching calls, episodes of the Masse Appeal Podcast, and the pages of his books. A lifelong learner, always.
Rene lives in Kingston with his wife and children. He has spent three decades turning discipline into systems — first on job sites, then in rental portfolios, now in the quiet habits that shape his mornings. You can find him on the yoga mat, in meditation, in the gym, or at his desk writing his next book.
